Randy Smith Alternator Covers.

If you remember this post here...

and you want one of those covers that Draven is pointing at, (It won't be covered with rusty chain oil from my blown engine main seal, I promise) I will be doing a very very limited run of these covers from Randy's pattern, and it will be JUST ONE RUN. So stay tuned this week as i'll be takin deposits for em.

and OK one more of Draven, with an unmachined cover...

Hmmm, who knows what that tattoo is on her forearm?

CCE

Gotten a bunch of comments begging me not to modify the original. DON'T WORRY!
I would never modify Randy's, what I will do it pull a mold (like whizzerrick suggested) and then modify a copy. I have already pulled a mold off the original Holy peg pattern as it's wood and I dont trust any foundry to not destroy it!

Thanx for all the input, I appreciate it. I will be talking with Rick and Tim at CCE and who knows I might do runs of em both ways.

Randy Smith parts...

Alicia Smith, Randy Smith's widow has entrusted me with carrying his name on by remaking some of hs parts from his original patterns.

So, stay tuned, I will be doing very small runs of these parts, the Holy pegs, finned bird deflectors and the finned alt cover, my all time favorite cast piece!

I am completely honored that I will be doing these!

Randy Smith's Custom Cycle Engineering

So, as you might know, Randy Smith is one of my all time chopper heroes.

If you don't know who he is, check this out.

Ok, well you might have seen this post about the Custom Cycle Engineering rotor cover, one of the coolest finned accessories ever for a HD big twin motor post 1970.

So, there are only 4 of them cast, two on bikes Randy built, one other and I have this one.

At some point soon I might be selling them for the Smith Family, cast from Randy's original patterns, once I get the machine work mapped out.

So, here is the one I have as I machine it for my flattrack evo.

Here is the cover chucked up so I can cut the gasket surface.

Here I am boring the lip for the case and for the rotor clearance.

Here it is after i drilled the holes. I see that i need to shift the holes a few degrees on future ones so it's dead center.

Here I am cutting the clearance for the belt or chain drive.

here before I cut the lower edge

Here it is mocked up with a sprocket, no lower end in it so I had to rig this deal up to check it.

The next one will be cut a bit different as my tranny is raised from stock..

Stay tuned!
