I can't even phathom how the crank and rod assembly works in one of those things. It looks like there's 14 cylinders on that engine. How the hell is there 7 or 14 throws on that crank and from front to back, it's only a couple feet wide? How does the oiling system work on an upsidedown cylinder? Is it like a dry sump system? I always wanted to tear one apart n check it out. It's weird seein' those 2 pics together... ghostly. Larry
Typically there is actually only one "throw" per bank of cylinders. One connecting rod is "fixed" to the crankshaft "hub". All the other rods are "articulated" and connect to the same hub as the fixed rod. Simple, effective, and makes for a relatively short engine.
