Collected by famed artist and rider Jeff Decker, Hell’s Union: Motorcycle Club Cuts as American Folk Art is an exhibition that features defunct motorcycle club cuts, or vests, and their assorted, colorful club colors, or patches, that represent a unique form of American folk art embodying the freedom and nonconformity of bikers. Jeff Decker is a historian and artist famed for his bronze sculptures of vintage motorcycles. He grew up surrounded by the car culture of southern California in the 60s.
This exhibition relates to ARTSblock’s concurrent show, In Their Prime: Photographs of Racing Car Driver Legends from 1960, and also to Riverside Art Museum’s (RAM) current exhibition exploring popular culture, Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public.
